Portage County Sheriff's Office investigating removal of Wausau's ballot drop box [View all]

WAUSAU – The Portage County Sheriff's Office will be investigating the removal of the absentee ballot box from Wausau City Hall, according to a late Friday afternoon statement from the Marathon County district attorney’s office.

The announcement comes days after City Clerk Kaitlyn Bernarde filed a report about an election irregularity following the removal of the clerk’s office drop box from its regular location in front of City Hall by Mayor Doug Diny.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice is tracking the status and findings of the investigation, according to the release.

The Marathon County district attorney’s office and the Portage County Sheriff’s Office will not make any further comments until the investigation is complete, according to the statement.
