Employee layoffs likely as UW grapples with budget cuts [View all]

The University of Wyoming will likely lay off employees in the coming weeks as the state’s sole four-year college grapples with more than $40 million in budget cuts.

Exactly how many staff members are likely to lose their jobs — and how much UW hopes to save by laying them off — is still up in the air, university spokesman Chad Baldwin said. The number will likely be less than 50.

Any employee served with a pink slip will find out in mid-May and at the latest be gone from the university by June 30.

Baldwin said Monday that any layoffs would not include faculty members.
