Democrat Betsy Johnson is running as a conservative Independent. She may bleed more votes from liberal Kotek than RWNJ bible thumping Christine Drazen.

The race is currently polling within a couple of points between the major party nominees.. The current governor, Kate Brown, has been an effective but unpopular leader. Kotek carries some of Brown's history with her, and her marriage to a woman may send some conservative voters to Johnson.

Oregon's economy has been strong, but the chronic housing shortage and rampant addiction has thousands of people living in squalor in many communities. Johnson has a track record of supporting uccessful sober housing shelters in several Oregon communities. Many voters are ready for a new, less accommodating approach to homeless campers on our streets.

It is a political situation ripe for conservative backlash.
