Click the green lock icon in the address bar to see the SSL is verified.

edit: If instead you're on a page at DU that shows a gray lock icon with orange exclamation point - "parts of this page are not secure" - instead of a green lock, that just indicates there are images hosted on non-https addresses in the thread you're viewing.
