HDMI, where have you been all my cyber-life? [View all]

My Mac Mini has HDMI and Thunderbolt sockets; my old monitor had DVI and VGA sockets; my new monitor has HDMI and VGA sockets.
I used a DVI-to-HMDI cable on my old monitor to keep the Thunderbolt socket available for Apple hardware devices. For my new monitor, I would have ordered a VGA-to-HDMI cable or adapter to keep the Thunderbolt socket open, but HDMI-to-HDMI cables cost about the same -- and besides, how much of a difference could it make? Well, the difference is that since HDMI enhances the audio as well as video signal, it's as if my new monitor has brought me into another dimension!
Along with picture and video resolution that I only got to enjoy in sports bars and electronics departments, what is now coming out of my twenty-dollar computer speakers makes them sound like they cost five times more. As someone who grew up on warm vinyl analog records and bass-boosted hard rock and R&B, I feel downright reborn because I no longer have to crank the volume to crank the volume!
