Sanders is in many ways emblematic of the split between the Socialist Party of Debs which saw black liberation as something of an afterthough, and the CPUSA which went very, very all in on organizing black workers (as well as offering heavy pragmatic grassroots support for mainstream labor movements and Roosevelt's New Deal).
