pyramidal Structure Chupacigarro Peru
. . .
A multidisciplinary research team in the Archaeology Zone in Chupacigarro, Peru, discovered an ancient pyramidal structure that has been designated as Sector F by authorities. The site is located one kilometer (0.62 miles) west of the sacred city of Caral-Supe. The latter site has been designated as a World Heritage site.
Recent archaeological explorations have enabled researchers to uncover this structure, which had been obscured by trees and other bushes. Once the vegetation was cleared, the team found stone walls that formed at least three superimposed platforms.
Archaeologists highlighted large rocks placed vertically in the walls, which they have named huancas. They signal the buildings corners and the central staircase that was the way to the top of the building.
What does the Pyramidal Structure Chupacigarro, Peru confirm?
Chupacigarro is located near a small ravine close to the sacred city of Caral Supe. The team that made the discovery, led by Dr. Ruth Shady, will now map the entire site to understand its size. The Peruvian government intends for Chupacigarro to improve the travel experience in Caral.
. . .
These settlements belong to the Caral civilization, which existed in ancient prehispanic Peru from 3000 to 1800 B.C. The 12 structures, considered public or ceremonial, are scattered, crowning the tops of the small hills in the ravine and surrounding a central space.
