Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) said on Thursday (6), in a radio interview, that Donald Trump was elected to govern the United States, not "to rule the world."
When asked about statements made by the U.S. president, such as his proposal to remove Palestinians from Gaza, Lula said that while he respects Trumps election, he was chosen as president by the American people and must "maintain democratic and civilized relations with the rest of the world."
Lula also made referencewithout mentioning him by nameto businessman Elon Musk, one of the most influential figures in Trumps new administration.
The Brazilian president stated that democracy must be respected but added, "What cannot happen is for us to think that a businessman can own global communications and speak ill of the world all the time, interfering in countries' elections."
Lula's interview was conducted with the Bahia-based radio stations Metrópole and Sociedade.
