Probably because I love The Dixie Chicks, and I had a real thing for riot grrrrrls back in the early 90's.

My whole family is from the Deep South. I was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. But most of the time, I really feel like the South is not my place anymore. I love the open, forward-thinking liberalism of the Seattle area, where I have lived for quite a while now.

No one needs to tell me that there is a grand old tradition of Southern Progressivism. I just want to see more of it. I'm going to add this group to my subscription list in the hopes that we can turn the South from deep red to true blue in my lifetime.
