I found out years ago that women aren't very interested in the painfully shy guy. I started having a lot more luck by introducing myself and adding "How do you do?" Be witty, but not a joke-teller; never laugh at your own witticisms. Be vocal but not loud. Be open-minded and accepting; avoid negativity.
