1. I wondering if opinion panels are a front for this sort of thing.

Several years back we were cautioned about survey companies who signed up folks to sample new products, and their personal info became like public. Now i'm seeing offers to mail the product to you, you sit in on Zoom focus groups and then you get paid. It's said you are merely giving feedback so companies can assess what would be popular and to improve products. Hmmm. I wonder.

And I've met a couple authors who publish on Amazon Kindle. They make no money. 90% of books never make a dime anymore. Today is like 1990 with 300,000 more books "published" every year, but the public reads less, doesn't need paper copies, which are btw expensive - $12-30 each. And no way a publisher would put their own money into untested authors practicing their craft.
