Companies will do anything to get free work from their employees.

Here's a story of a manager that didn't do that. When my sons were teens, they both worked at the nearby multiplex. One day, when they were both off we went there to see a movie. When we arrived, the manager said, "Hey, we just got a shipment of supplies in, can you help put them away?" The said, sure, and the manager then told them to clock in. They probably spent ten minutes doing the putting away, and they got paid for it. He was a good guy and they'd probably been willing to do that not on the clock, but he wasn't that kind of a manager.
