Lithium battery solid waste mismanagement threatens aquatic environments. That's a classic pollution story. Let's face it; it's not quite as fascinating as "genetic effects at Chernobyl and Fukushima, in the former case concerning the multiple species that have come to thrive in the Viridian exclusion zone in the absence of humans".

I disagree that batteries in particular, and energy storage in general, are NOT green. In fact, energy storage is an essential part of the climate solution. We have only to think of efforts to develop vehicles and aircraft powered by hydrogen fuel cells.

The poster laments that "few people trouble themselves to think about the laws of thermodynamics, a key concept in making decisions about energy...", but does not seem to understand that economic and practical engineering concerns are also key to developing useful energy systems.
