3. Frugality is one of the three "R's" of the environmental movement.

I've always maintained it's the most important. Reduce, reuse, recyle. For me, the word reduce always meant reduce how much you buy.

A friend once asked me why I choose to voluntarily live a simple life even though financially I'm comfortable. I told her my primary reason was because I've been a conservationist for over 50 years and I care about the environment. I grew up in a time and place where shopping was a rare occurrence. I almost get sick to my stomach when I think about the rampant consumption in this country.
