'Tear Beirut apart': Some politicians beat war drums after Majdal Shams rocket attack [View all]

The Times of Israel is carrying the reporting that, in addition to the cabinet authorizing a response to the terror attack on the soccer field that killed many children, the far right ministers are basically calling for a war against the entire country of Lebanon. Finance Minister Smotrich is quoted saying "Lebanon as a whole has to pay the price". National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir is quoted as calling for "war in the North now" and expressing that he feels it should have happened already. Even some opposition members are supportive of a much wider response. New Hope MK Michel Buskila issued a demand that Jerusalem "tear Beirut apart".

So the expansion that was feared may well come despite the pleas from the West to prevent a full blown war.
