you can't eliminate the noise and explosive flashes entirely, that would be impossible. but the goal is keep the noise to a minimum. you probably couldn't eliminate the use of RDX entirely, but with thermitic materials you could keep the amount of RDX used to a minimum.
nanothermitic materials have been found in the WTC dust and even in the lungs of the first responders.
that's not a conspiracy theory, its a fact.
