(599 posts)14. there are 600,000 homeless lgbt kids in this country who were kicked out by their loving parents
So often, coming out, trying to be honest, and be yourself, backfires horribly.
Others (I would think even millions) are still trapped in homophobic homes, being bullied by religious parents, urged to "be a man", "pray away the gay", "satan in inside you, we need to cast it out", "no son of mine is going to be a fag", or just "it is just a phase, you'll grow out of it".

Dad didn't talk to me for a week, but now we are closer than ever. It's such a generational thing.

Well, I think a dad now tends to, not always, but tends to handle it better than my WW2 dad.

My dad was supportive, although he asked a couple of times if I was "sure".
