comedy (especially) will be more likely to use stereotypes that we are more likely to laugh at. It's easier to get a laugh with dumb characters, or with caricatures, so ... perhaps the person who wrote this piece picked the wrong genre to go after.

I'm thinking of some of my favorite comedies, and they are chock full of stupid (Father Ted, Trailer Park Boys, Arrested Development, The Exceedingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, etc.)
