(32,376 posts)situation. All of us as women and feminists talk about the concept of male privilege, and we see a lot of it in play on DU and discuss it. But there are forms of privilege that I as a white cisgender straight woman have, and I acknowledge that there are forms of oppression that I will never experience because of it. It's not that I can't understand a little, but I'm sure there are things I miss constantly because I just don't know what I'm looking at when that oppressive situation might occur.
If I were to say or do something to marginalize a woman who has other forms of oppression to deal with, I would hope that she would put me right and tell me where my speech and actions are contributing to her oppression. Even that can be tiring to deal with, education of the dominant majority, as we women know.
