in an environment primed for viral hysteria due to the covid debacle. Monkey pox has been around for ages, endemic to West Africa and pops up in industrialized countries on occasion. It's no where near as contagious as covid and treatments / vaccines already exist since it's a close cousin of chicken pox, small pox, cow pox......
