I once asked someone running for office a question about this. Since Medicare pays 80%, why not raise the percentage deducted for FICA that 20% and charge those on SS 20% more on the medicare premium and then cover everything? He said it was a good idea. I don't think he won.

People use those plans because they can't afford traditional Medicare, a supplement, and Part D.

You're right. I am paying about 800 dollars a month for 2 with part D, but no dental.
