Another word about the Health Group [View all]

This discussion thread is pinned.

There is a line drawn for this group regarding asking for or offering medical advice and touting remedies for specific illnesses. That line says not to do that. It's a pretty bright, easy to see line.

Posts that present studies listed at or excerpted by the NIH or other legitimate sources are always acceptable. Posts linked to information about treating or preventing diseases with "alternative" therapies from places that sell such things are never acceptable.

Anecdotal accounts about first-hand experiences are usually acceptable. Such accounts followed by recommendations that DUers go and do likewise are not usually acceptable, and are considered to be offering medical advice. Extending individual accounts to offer general advice simply isn't appropriate here.

Posting something about a medical condition you might have and asking here for advice on what to do about it is never acceptable. If you have a health concern, please consult with a medical professional of your choice. This group is not a substitute for that in any way.

Genuine "woo," with no underlying research by anyone other than the people promoting the "woo," is almost never acceptable. Things like crystal healing, etc., are not appropriate for this group.

The hosts of this forum are not out looking for threads to lock. Truly, we are not. However, it is a great help to the group if borderline stuff is considered carefully before posting.

We're not medical professionals here, so offering or asking for medical advice on any level isn't in the SOP of this group. Pushing the boundaries isn't something that benefits the group's members.

Thanks for participating in the Health Group!
