(8,204 posts)29. BTW, you can throw cooked (whole) grains into your bread dough --
you'll figure out to adjust the amount of flour. I've used brown rice, millet, oatmeal (makes a lovely chewy dough), wild rice, rye berries, etc -- it'll give you more roughage and the taste is delish. Don't be afraid of what it looks like when you first add the grains -- bread is very forgiving. Have you tried honey instead of sugar?

The yeast eats the sugar so the carbs from that are minimal. what you need to worry about is the

A soda pop has 20 teaspoons of sugar! A kid in the 1800's was lucky to get a candy in two weeks...
