2. Try just doing a google.ca search. I found death certificates from the turn of the 20th century

in British Columbia by doing a simple search. Type in the place, then the first and last name. You never know what has been put online. Sure you have to go through a lot of google hits. But it is worth it if you find anything. Also some of the military records from the first world war are online. My family name was not all that common so it worked for me.
