a desert w/ the berries, making it immediately usually immersed them in a sugar-laden mix, in preparation for your next step in the recipe you were making, and then the berries were incorporated into your recipe by then, e.g., add to a cake mix or add to a Jello mix or something similar. The recipes usually didn't last long either. We also dried strawberries too, and saved them this way, they seemed to last longer (a dehumidifier).
