I just use about a 1' length of 4X4 scrap.
Drill a hole in it with the drill bit I want to store.
Unchuck it, stick it in that hole where it fits snugly,
and them move on to the next one.

This works great for The Shop,

but is too awkward to carry around for a mobile tool set.
I have an old Black&Decker folding plastic case that has lasted for over 10 years,
and is easy to use, but it came with a set of drills.
