(5,266 posts)This time of year i always think of the homeless. A friend I once had became homeless when his sister threw him out. He froze to death because he did not want to spend the nights in the homeless shelter of Santa Fe. He died, frozen on the streets.
Since then I always think of those on the streets under all conditions.
A few years ago, I saw a tattered person I befriended because he had 2 dogs perched on his pull cart he dragged around a big city, collecting discarded items from the huge condos on trash days. I gave him some money to help his dogs and some nice items I had in the family condo for him to try to sell. He thanked me profusely. Years passed, the covid lockdown days came and went and I often wondered what became of this guardian of 2 dogs.
I just saw him a couple of days ago. But it was a quick moment as I was passing by quickly, but I caught a glimpse of him sleeping on the street with one of the dogs who was snuggled to him very closely. It was kind of sad, I had to leave the next day and was in a hurry; he was surrounded by many homeless, alone with just one dog.
on edit: I just thought of this account because of your thoughts on the folks in Ukraine. so true, what they have endured. thanks brother Duncanpup for sharing your adventures once again. It always makes me smile.
