1. I remember it well. Abbott released an estimate weeks later that 100-200 people died as a result of the power outage.

An independent group that compared deaths from the same month in earlier years concluded that over 900 people had died, and many of them froze to death or died because they relied on devices needing electricity or had no way to get to a hospital for emergency needs. None of these deaths needed to happen if Texas had been part of the national power grid, but Republicans love thumbing their noses at regulations so they have their own power grid which still has not been truly winterized. Bg pil and big energy love Abbott and Republicans because they get a green light to maximize profits and do nothing to contain risks to the public.

Just two years later, after Abbott had boasted that he had fixed the energy grid problems, another storm caused widespread power outages, in some areas lasting for more than a week. This is what the MAGA Party will do to the whole country if they are allowed control again and are able to dismantle all safety regulations for critical services.
