As an aside, I travelled extensively for employer throughout the Middle East and Asia when kidnappings (and hotel bombings) seemed to be a common occurrence in a number of these countries.
I personally carried a million dollars in life insurance then to be assured that my young family was cared for financially if something were to happen to me.
My wife always felt that I was underpaid and otherwise not appreciated for my work that brought in a major amount of sales and profits for the company.
When leaving on one trip that included traveling in several of these unsafe countries, as I was heading out my wife warned me to be careful, saying, “Don’t expect J…. To pay your ransom if you're kidnapped.”
