But this is a revisionist historical account of the Magyars origins. The genesis of what were or became the Magyars began in extreme Northeastern Europe/Northwestern Siberia. The whole Turkish/Turan angle was propagated by Hungarian nationalists who rejected anthropological research of German/Austrians because it wasn't interesting/epic enough for them. The Hungarian language was no doubt influenced by contact with Turkic peoples during the great migration as well as the Ottoman occupation of most of the Hungarian Kingdom, but these are all loan words. The modern day Hungarian language has its roots near the Ural Mountains and is a Uralic language (not Turkic) with the closest related languages being Mansi and Khanty, spoken in western Siberia.
