3. AFAIK it's standard in fed court for no recording devices.

Any time I have been involved in court proceedings the notices always said no recording devices. Since to get into a courthouse you are generally searched and the security team know the difference between an iPhone and a much older Nokia. That said, there isn't a lot stopping anyone bringing in an older phone and making a call in the courtroom. After all the recording device is not in the courtroom, no? Just hope the phone has a good mike and the connection is good enough...
