How would things if lies were always met with the cold facts?

One of my favorite cold facts: Massachusetts has an AWB that covers certain rifles which was greatly expanded by their AG's "interpretation" of the law. The expansion occurred when there had been no killings at all with a rifle anywhere in that state.
That worked so well that it stopped crimes before it existed.
