It is also kind of a moral panic issue just line pot was in the 1930s, switchblade knives in the 1950s, rock/hip-hop music in the 1980s, and video games in the 1990s.
I busted a gut laughing when Trump started to talk about video games. There are more violent video games and "assault weapons" than in 1995, but half of the mass murders as back then.

We have a gang problem, but that has more to do with the drug war and wealth inequality.
As for rest, it is individualism and the Enlightenment. True liberalism. It won't be dying out, it is growing.
