... sometimes I really miss the days before the 24/7 news cycle.

In those days you got updates on the TV or radio at the top of the hour; then you got a vetted news story and analysis in your morning newspaper. A person actually had time to think about what was going on, instead of becoming almost manic for more 'news'.

Now we get a kind of hyped-up frenzy of media competition to broadcast the latest most dramatic tidbit.

It is 'celebrity' news and it does tend to make infamous 'celebrities' of some very, very bad people.
