I am in the "window" with you, heaven, and I have similar fears for our country and our world. I love your phrasing of President Obama as a "quiet giant." Those who experienced his time in the WH yet can only spew forth their hatred for his skin color will never change their deplorable racist views, and will indeed teach their children the same. trump has given them permission to flaunt their ignorance, normalized their bigotry, convinced them of the "rightness" of their wrongheadedness.

Yet I do still have slivers of hope for the future. Anecdotal evidence is pretty meaningless, but I live in a very red area and I do see some backlash to the excesses of our racist moron in the WH. As for me and mine, I helped make the positive trend. Growing up in the Jim Crow south of the 1950s-60s, I was pretty much alone with my liberal views, and I knew no PoC except the folks who cleaned houses and yards. My daughter and two grands grew up with black friends and they are not afraid to stand up and shout when they encounter racist views. If each one makes three or more, we have the right trajectory going for us. Pollyannaish maybe, but I either cling to these slivers, or sink into the darkness.
