so clearly stated. A former slave schooling a slave-holder on his rights with the "whole Government" behind him. It would be wonderful to know if a confrontation was held between Rice and Diggs, but it is sufficient to learn that he was reunited with his family.

This is the history I want to learn too, tulipsandroses. Most of my studies of that era have been through letters and diaries. They tell the true story not the whitewashed versions taught in school. Thank you for posting this letter along with the additional history of the family.
