2. We need a reckoning - I was suspended from school for wearing a similar "inappropriate" hair style

when I was in high school. I was going to a religious based high school at the time. It wasn't a public school by the way.

I recognize this for what it is now that I am much older. At the time, I thought I was being rebellious and breaking the school's rules. But so much attention and focus on black people's hair. The same doesn't go for white kids that wear Mohawks or dye their hair green or purple or whatever color. But somehow dreadlocks, twists, and other hairstyles that blacks wear are unacceptable.

There is so much focus on what blacks do. It is exhausting.
