(34,420 posts)after black leaders. This was not a vote to remove Dr. King but a vote to remove the naming of an iconic, predominantly black area without asking the people who live there.
I am guessing you know absolutely nothing about this except for the nasty headlines that popped up.
I am guessing that most people that are upset about this have not one freaking clue about the area and the people that were upset about it.
NOBODY voted to keep MLK off of a major street just this one because of it's long long history and the landmark nature of the blvd.

I would love to hear from people who live there. I have a son who lives on Vine street about 4 blocks from The Paseo as it has been called for many years and used as a landmark in the city. I know quite a few people who live there. It is a beautiful area and one I use to navigate the city I know but cannot easily drive in as do many other people.
If you are not where the vote and the issue took place or around where you would know the people involved then you probably should research more before blowing your top over something that is just a misdirected city council issue that needed to be corrected. There will be a large BLVD named after MLK, there is no argument that he deserves this tribute. To pick out a city icon and change it without a vote by the people affected by it is always a bad idea. This was a huge mistake but there will be a MLK blvd somewhere in the city and it will be one of many named after important black leaders.
I would love to hear from someone who lives in the Paseo with the opposite view of this than the one I have tried to point out. Of all the people I know from the area or living there now there is not a racist among them.
