but not ha ha funny. A lot of IHS's I have used are goofy, including my own tribal IHS. If you don't live at home, where your tribe is located it appears you aren't Indian anymore....for example

I'm Haida, been out of Alaska since 2001, and I cannot qualify for any Haida assistance, or tribal assistance because I don't live in state, its like I'm no longer Indian....

Another example:

My mother in law, and her sister are both Cherokee, and they live on the Missouri side....they both had really horrible health issues, one had a broken arm, the other has kidney stones, and a host of other ailments, and IHS won't cover them because they live out of the 14 county area of Oklahoma.....about the only thing IHS's covers for them is their diabetic testing/pills, just about everything else is a big middle finger. For more expansive help we usually have to go to Claremore, or Hastins in Tahlequah, but even then they like showing you the middle finger, because we don't live in state, or in county.....

From what I've heard earlier this year at the Congress of American Indians, is that they are trying to get all federally recognized tribal members a medical card, which can be used at any hospital across the nation....

My father in law is ex military, and he has ran into similar issues, if he doesn't live in state, the VA tries to turn him away(in the past though, currently he has found his niche).
