In a word, greed. With the emissions curtailed the milage went up.
They could then advertise that their diesels were "clean" and got good milage.
Fuck'em.. I will never buy a VW product no matter HOW good it is.. They think it's ok to pollute and ruin our lungs for profit. They could not build a clean diesel that got good milage so they did what any red blooded republican would do.. cheat..
Ok rant mode off... sorry, this just gets me pissed...
