I was in Ireland and bought a local sim card for my iPhone... 25 bucks american. Used the hell out of it, had all my apps (google maps) and contacts. Still had a bucket load of time/data left on return.. I found out about this and car rental via the TripAdvisor forums on Ireland. A wealth of current knowledge about where you want to go..
They have one on Spain...
