North shore and that's how we always pronounced it.



Things change over time.

Out west, people think it's "ba'stin" which I regularly correct. There's a true Southie Irishman in town and when we see each other we immediately go into our native accents and entertain those around us. We always tell the audience that we're both from Beantown and he agrees that my phonetic spelling is correct. There are many cultural things that folks out this way don't understand about the eastern states.
