For example, there is non-zero probability that a vein of gold is located underneath a mountain. You can drill holes and look for it, but the vein might be very small, and you can only drill so many holes and only go so deep. But based solely on drilling and finding nothing, you can estimate the probability that there may actually be gold under the mountain, but you missed it.
