The Old Testament does not have the word "hell" in it. The word "sheol" in Hebrew is often translated as hell but actually means "pit" i.e. a grave. It could also be a euphemism for an underworld to which both the good and evil go to. Nowhere is there a place of eternal torment described. The idea of heaven and hell only showed up in Judaism and Christianity in the Second Temple Period.
