Plus a number of American Bishops have defied Pope Francis to support right wing politics.

I agree that most will not stand up against Paxton. I was raised Catholic, but no longer attend church. I believe that Jesus' message to us was to love and help your fellow human beings not stand in judgment of them, or ignore their suffering.
