ruthless selfishness, contempt for the needs and opinions of others, and whatever dishonesty and self foolery are required to sustain it all are very characteristic of people with at least some extremist traits. On both the right and left.

There's a reason they're called extremists, and it has little or nothing to do with issues and everything with how they regard and react to the world around them. Anyone doubting that should remember that Bernie's positions in this election year are all traditiuonal, long-accepted and supported liberal positions. That's why a large majority of his support is from mainstream Democrats.

And of course you're right that there may well be some right-wingers in there. They're fraternal twins who both are full of hostility toward moderates but who hate Democrats more than anyone else.
