About TARP, the choices were to either bail out the banks or have a second depression. You'd have to be pretty deranged to hate capitalism so much that you would actually allow so many people to go through that much suffering just to see Wall Street collapse. Personally I'm glad that Obama wasn't a communist, which is the only ideology that I can imagine would have supported that decision.
