(32,876 posts)From the beginning of DU3 a few hosts always control the process.
I was a GD Host early on and several I was serving with had previously been Moderators on DU2. In fact, for many months the old Moderators still had access to user profiles (real names, history of posting, email addresses, etc.) and they used that info to drive their own agendas. There was a real shit storm when everyone found out they had access and were still going back to DU2 to do their "research". Some Hosts still use "Moderator Rules" instead of the current instructions.
Anyway, there is a group of people who always want to be Hosts and many were previously Moderators. Keep in mind that on DU2 they did not cycle off - they were permanent positions.
What I am trying to explain is that many of the Host repeaters are very intimidating and someone hosting for the first time will just simply stop participating. It is made more difficult by the fact that all of the instruction from the admin are open to interpretation. Nothing is ever straight forward because they want Hosts to use their own best judgment but that is an invitation to the bullies (and garden variety know-it-alls) to have their way and intimidate other hosts.
The first step in fixing GD Hosts is to remove the constant repeaters and the admin need to moderator the Hosts for awhile and actually write some rules instead of gibberish.
Also, GD needs to stop being the Lounge and management needs to figure out a way to stop all the vanity posts by a couple of posters.
