(14,733 posts)Although I understand enough about market forces to be rather dismayed about what it says about what consumer demands are nowadays if that's what is 'mainstream' now. It makes me wonder how we wound up here, to some extent. I don't actually believe that mankind is inherently evil, but it seems like we've moved into a period where all sorts of hatreds have become not only more prevalent, but more open. Misogyny, racism, homophobia... I'd like to think it's all 'death throes', the violent thrashing around of a dysfunctional culture dying and being replaced by something better, but I'm also fairly cynical. Even as we've finally begun to understand how these evils are perpetuated from generation to generation, I think the majority of the population isn't all that aware of that kind of knowledge.
