6. I have a friend who describes himself as an "ultra liberal" and is a diehard Democratic partisan.

He married a woman from Birkina Faso nine years ago (fantastic woman, by the way) who shares this same sentiment, more or less.

For the last few years he has been pestering me to find a "mail order bride" from overseas, with the idea that I would be "rescuing" such a woman from a life of poverty. I kindly tell him I'm not interested in such a thing, but he persists.

He also thinks that arranged marriages are the "natural" way of finding a mate, and that our current dalliance with romantic love as a basis for marriage is a "fad."

Amazing where one can find these types of attitudes.
